"God Bless the Dream, the Dreamer and the Result."

FaithWalk Clothing by William Renae

In today's world and in times past collaboration and partnering has been an instrumental strategy.  Partnering helps us to grow, learn, change and exchange ideas.  Even the Bible endorses partnering based on the scripture that says, "Where two or three are gathered, I am there."

I want to introduce to you a mother/son partnership, which currently launched a new clothing line.  The clothing line is called FaithWalk. The new line is created to encourage others to save themselves and to take control of their own destiny.

Renae Parker Benenson is a Mom, certified Chaplin (spiritual listener and encourager), writer and co-founder of FaithWalk.  William Marshall Parker II is a Son, entrepreneur, writer and co-founder of FaithWalk.  Together they compliment each other and have found support for their individual and collective growth and development.

They started FaithWalk because they get it.  They have figured out that their life is to get better spiritually, emotionally, financially, intellectually and physically it will be because they have prayed to God and believe that the Creator will equip them for the journey and fill them with unfathomable power to be and to do more than they can ever imagine.

Make an Opportunity: A FaithWalk Interview with Doza -the Goddess by Sarina Cliff

No one is going to promote you or listen to you as much as you do. So you have to get out there and do the work yourself. Then the other stuff will come to you.

Every so often I meet someone who reminds me of someone else. My attraction to another person usually has less to do with looks and more to do with an attitude – a zest for life. Most recently I interviewed Simone Sykes aka Doza - the Goddess. She is a female Hip Pop entertainer and a native Chicagoan. When I caught up with Doza, she was at home chillin’ and creating music in her self made music studio. Immediately after our visit I thought, this is a phenomenal woman. She puts me in the mind of Madame C. J. Walker born Sarah Breedlove also a self made woman. Madame C. J. Walker was an Afro-American business woman, hair care entrepreneur, tycoon and philanthropist. Her fortune was made by developing and marketing a hugely successful line of beauty and hair products for black women. The Guinness Book of Records cites Walker as the first female who became a millionaire by her own achievements. Poet Langston Hughes called her "The joy goddess of Harlem's 1920s". Both women share the belief in creating an opportunity through hard work and bringing joy to their people. It was a pleasure to meet Doza - the Goddess of music. Our interview took place in her Southside home. It was a beautiful spring day in Chicago.

S1: Hi Doza. Tell me something about you.

D1 I am a female Hip Pop entertainer. I create music that’s very easy on the ears and very positive. I’ve been singing since I was a young one, about 6-7 years old. Music runs in my family. It is something that was presented to me. It started when I was a baby in my mother’s womb. Mom would put earphones on her belly to keep me entertained. She would also sing to me.

S2. We live in a time where women are becoming whoever they want. Why are you a Hip Pop entertainer?

D2: (She looked startled by the question.) Why did I want to be an entertainer? Music is very powerful. You can reach a lot of people through music. I want to reach people in a positive way. I want to see people smile. I want to see them have a lovely time. I know that I can do that with my music. So that’s why I chose to be an entertainer. I’m very sincere about my music and I’m sincere about the people. I want our people to make a change, and to do the right thing. I want to teach the people through my music. I know I’m not a pastor and I’m not the president. What I know for sure is music is very powerful and it can change someone’s life. I just want to express myself in a powerful way and to let people know that there are brighter days and that you can move forward and do anything you want to do.
S3: Your stage name is interesting – very exotic. How did you come up with the stage name Doza- the Goddess?

D3: (She laughs) Doza is more like a slang term that people use. When I thought about the term, I saw it as something that is addictive and potent. I am Doza….I am addictive and I am potent. Once you hear me you want more. A Goddess is very powerful. She can change things and do things. Doza-the Goddess: a he woman who is very addictive and potent. She is someone able to make a change. Yeah, Doza –the Goddess - that’s me!
S4: I heard your CD – Straight Contact and several other musical pieces on your MySpace page. I found the lyrics to be meaningful and the beats hot. Tell me about your lyrics and beats?

D4: My lyrics come from my surroundings. What I have gone through. What I have witnessed someone else go through. My music is about day to day things that are going on all around me. My music tells a story. The beats are connected to the lyrics. When I create, I try to make everything cohesive.
S5: Is it also true that you created your own music studio?

D5: (She smiles with confidence) Yes. I did. I couldn’t wait. I got tired of waiting on people and working with people who were trying to do me wrong by charging me lots of money. One day I said how hard could it be? It was tiring and overwhelming to wait on someone else to do what I could probably do. Then when they did the work the job was not done correctly. So I said okay, I need to do something. I started producing my own music. I created a booth where I could record the music I wanted to create. In the studio I have a little piano. It’s not much that I have but it’s enough to get the job done. I spent $25.00 to set up my booth. You don’t have to spend millions, thousands and hundreds of dollars to make it possible. Just get what you really need. Everyday there are people out there trying to lead others astray by not telling them about the things they really need to be a success. They give you the run around by telling you that you need this thing or that thing. You don’t really need a lot of stuff. If you know what you are trying to do, just do the research - Research. If it does not sound right or if it’s too expensive to you, don’t go for it. “You got a mind. Do your own thing.”
S6: Terry McMillan, the famous journalist who wrote books such as Mama, Disappearing Acts and Waiting to Exhale, once said “Can’t nothing make your life work if you ain’t the architect.” I hear you saying the same thing. You are your architect. You are not allowing others to steer you away from your dream. Is that true?

D6: (Listens with curiosity and nods) That’s right. No one is going to promote you or listen to you as much as you do. So you have to get out there and do the work yourself. Then the other stuff will come to you. It takes hard work…hard work.

S7: Do you have any role models and mentors?

D7: (Nodding and smiling broadly) My mother, my sister, the man up above. My family… those are the people I look up to. They introduced me to life - period. I thank my family because they have helped so much. (She becomes tearful) I thank my family... my mother, my sister, my nephews they are my biggest fans. I thank the Man above. They are my role models – my idols. My father was also a role model but he passed away. He was into music too. He introduced me to a lot of different genres of music. He was a truck driver who would listen to rock and roll, country, bluegrass and all types of music. He exposed me to the different genres of music so my head would not be focused on one thing. I thank my father for his support as well. He was a very great man.
S8: Yeah….There is a lot of shady people in the world and some in the entertainment industry. Are you prepared to enter into that industry?

D8: (Nods her head in agreement) Yep, I think about that daily. I want to be an entertainer so bad but still I have some fears. Even though I want this world and I’m a positive person, I know not everyone is on my level. My approach to dealing with my fear is to pray and ask God for guidance, strength and faith on a daily basis. I know I will be okay if I continue to have the strength and faith. I know it will happen the right way. I will be able to put that barrier up and just block it out and not have to deal with it. I’m kind of afraid but I know it will be okay because this is what I really want. Nobody is going to take it away. I’m not going to let anyone try to get over on me.
S9: How are you staying focus to achieve your goal?

D9: (She speaks with boldness.) Family. Family family. I think a lot of people don’t succeed because they don’t have someone backing them. If you have someone pushing you to do this or that you will be able to achieve. Or you have to be a strong person on the inside. My family is what keeps me focused. What was out there on the streets was guiding me in a whole other direction. Initially, I thought that profanity and all that other stuff was the way to go and people would accept me like that. But actually people were really backing away from me. And I never felt good on the inside. It’s all about keeping positive people around you. Anytime you have positive around you can always move forward.
S10: (I nod in agreement.) When young novices enter into the entertainment and sports industry, some bring with them lots of unresolved issues. They get caught up in stuff. How do you plan to stay safe or on the positive?

D10: My goal is to try and stay on the right path….and to just say no. I have learned to walk away and to say no. I know what’s right and what’s wrong. I am an adult. I have also found when you know better you do better. I have been through some hard times. It is why I can say these things with conviction. I am glad for family – having someone backing me. I am glad for inner strength. Yes, I went down the wrong road… a few times but…never again. I know now it is not the right way to go. Today, I know where I want to go. If I go down the road of destruction, I will never be able to make it where I want to go. It is crunch time now.

S11: What is your end goal as an artist, is it to move from rags to riches or to spread love using your craft?

D11: (She giggles) I want both. Music is what I love to do and I want to make some money. When I was young, we had artists like Salt and Pepa, Ice-T, Boogey Down Productions and others. They were the artists who entertained me. I want to entertain and if I am good at what I am doing and it’s on a positive scale the money will come. Enjoy entertaining and promoting change in others. I like to see smiles on the faces of people. Entertaining is what I really love.

S12: Doza, are you on a FaithWalk? What have you learned since being on this journey?

D12: Yes I am. I am on a faith walk - everyday. While on this journey, I have learned that anything is possible if you believe. Since being on this path, I have learned that being negative and hurting others is not the way to go. You feel better when you are doing the right thing. I am on the journey. I am keeping my head above water. I am staying strong. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

S13: What wisdom would you offer other travelers who are on a faith journey?

D13: (With excitement) Stay positive. Do the right thing. Stop trying to steer people astray. Stop being angry all the time. Just do the right thing. Stay positive. Know that your dreams can come true if you work hard toward it.

S14: Doza…is there anything else that you want to share with us?

D14: I just want to thank FaithWalk for interviewing me. And I’m asking others to check me out - Doza-the Goddess at

Pitcher Is First Woman to Play in Japan Pro League

Eri Yoshida became the first woman to play professional baseball against men in Japan today, where the pitcher had a strikeout in her debut, the AP reports. The 17-year-old, whose signing was widely viewed as a publicity stunt, faced just two batters, walking the first and allowing a stolen base. “I wasn’t thinking about anything other than just going out there and giving it my all,” she said.

“I think this was a bad result but … the fans were really cheering me on,” the high-schooler added. “I want to be able to pitch more innings and become a pitcher who can be relied upon.” The knuckleballer, whose hero is Boston’s Tim Wakefield, plays for the Kobe squad in the minor Kansai Independent League; the Kobe 9 Cruise beat the Osaka Gold Villicanes 5-0.

College's Persistence Pays Off: First Lady to Speak

Seniors at the University of California, Merced, couldn't rely on a wealthy and established network of alumni to reel in a famous commencement speaker. The UC system's newest campus has yet to graduate a full senior class and only has a handful of alumni. But that didn't keep this year's seniors from landing one of the most sought-after speakers of the season—first lady Michelle Obama. She'll speak on May 16.

Since February, the 430-member founding undergraduate class has run a nonstop campaign—with requisite Facebook page—to draw the first lady to the campus. They bombarded her office with letters and reached out to Charles Ogletree, a native of Merced who mentored both Obamas. "Mrs. Obama was touched," said her deputy press secretary.

Doing It Different

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world" George Washington Carver (1864-1943)

You're going to get criticized if you step out of the norm. SO WHAT! Let em hate. Be strong, have self- esteem. Do it your way, because if you don't somebody in the very near future will do what GOD blessed you with prior and they will go on to receive the accolades and be entered in the history book of life for doing something uncommon.

Armstrong Embraces His Pain

Lance Armstrong underwent surgery today to repair his shattered collarbone, and Sally Jenkins, in the Washington Post, says he seems almost happy to be “reunited with his old friend”—pain. “Most people’s natural reaction is to avoid pain, to anesthetize it, dull it, or kill it. But Armstrong frankly welcomes it. His relationship with pain, his ability to tolerate it, cope with it, and even use it, is the single most interesting aspect of his character.”

Jenkins, who collaborated with the cyclist on his autobiography, says Armstrong finds it clarifying. “He’s at his most pure when he’s in pain. He believes it has a basic purpose: It’s supposed to improve us.” Jenkins has no doubt Armstrong will compete in the Tour de France this year: “The only issue is how much it will hurt when he does.”

Liberty's Crown May Reopen by July 4th

The Statue of Liberty's crown may be open again for visitors by July 4th, Reuters reports. The crown has been closed since the 9/11 attacks, but Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says he hopes to have it open, at least to a small groups, by the nation's birthday. Given the lack of exits and its narrow stairwell, the days of allowing hundreds at a time into the statue are likely over.

"If you put several hundred people in there and there is some kind of event, lots of people could be killed very quickly," Salazar said. The statue may adopt a ticketing or lottery system, similar to safety procedures at the Washington Monument. A museum and observation deck at the museum's base were reopened in 2004, but access beyond that has been prohibited.

NFL Commish Pitches Longer Regular Season

If you think the NFL preseason is too long, you have good company: Roger Goodell does, too. And unlike you, the NFL commissioner can do something about it. Goodell wants to extend the regular season from 16 games to 17 or 18 and shorten the exhibition season, the AP reports. The players union and the league’s TV partners would have to sign off, but Goodell hopes to have a formal pitch for owners by May.

20 Years Later, Young MC Still Busts a Move

It’s been 20 years since self-described “1 Hit Wonder” Young MC released Bust a Move, but the rapper is happy the song has held up as well as it has, he tells Rolling Stone. People aren’t “going to get a babysitter to go to a club and hear about you shooting people and raping women,” he says. “They’ll go … to hear Baby Got Back or Bust a Move or Wild Thing, because that’s a fun time out.”

“Crossing over wasn’t a bad thing, because nobody had crossed over yet,” he continues. What’s his favorite story? “Ari Fleischer got drunk at a party at the ranch and did Bust a Move on karaoke,” he says of the Bush spokesman. “They said he was actually good. … The kids who were listening to it then are now gainfully employed.”

Stubbornness Is Costly

Boolumaster

You might have had the answer to a situation, days, weeks or months ago, but like the ol timers say " You are set in your ways". Stop being Stubborn! This is costly. Opportunity, Time and Money are lost due to this Stubbornness. Not forgiving someone is stubbornness. Squash IT!!! Now, when we keep forgiving a particular person and the same situation continues to reappear, that's also being stubborn because we haven't learned the lesson to move on. So until we learn the lessons setup by life, those situations will continue to show themselves. Forgive but don't be naive. Stop being set in your ways.

Stubbornness Clouds your Vision, Stay Clear.

Passing Me By

Boolumaster

Very True story! There's an associate of mine that was passed over for a promotion. He and everybody in his circle thought that he deserved the position. I had a conversation with this person about a year before the position became available and he talked about how much work he put in, but he kept mentioning, "They will never give me a position like that" and yes when the position came, he was passed over by a person that had just joined the company. Everybody in his circle wondered why he didn't get the position. It was his thinking. Doesn't matter how much you put in, if your thinking is off, YOU'RE OFF. Don't let what you want pass you by.

Kolan McConiughey says he’s confident he can beat Barack Obama in a bowling matchup, despite the president’s recent improvement to a score of 129. The Special Olympics champion, who has three perfect games on his record and averages 266, tells TMZ that "he’s cool, but he can’t beat me.” The White House had no comment on the challenge in the wake of Obama’s bowling joke on Leno, though the president has apologized and invited Special Olympics athletes to the White House.

Teen Uses YouTube to Help Dad

When Mark Gullett lost his job as a marketing executive for the Tampa Bay Lightning, his son Ben, 14, knew what to do. He made a somber YouTube video in which he told Mark’s story in short sentences on poster boards. Now, after only 6 days, the video has garnered over 20,000 views, hundreds of emails and a few job offers for Mark. “When we first saw it, we almost cried,” Mark tells the St. Petersburg Times.

Ledger-Directed Music Videos to Air This Year

Music videos showcasing Heath Ledger’s directorial skills will be released this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter. One of the videos is for Grace Woodroofe’s cover of David Bowie’s “Quicksand.” The other, a fully animated spot for Modest’s Mouse’s “King Rat,” was a collaboration between Ledger and illustrator Daniel Auber. Modest Mouse will appear on Letterman tomorrow.

March Madness: It All Started With Larry and Magic

March wasn't always so mentally unstable. A new book claims the whole college roundball craze started 30 years ago, when Michigan State and Indiana State—and their stars, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird—met in the title game. “You couldn't have asked for a better dynamic between these two central characters,” says Seth Davis, who wrote How March Went Mad and calls their match-up a “catalytic event.”

The personalities of the two stars helped. Bird was shy, while Magic loved the fans and media. "They were just unbelievable basketball players because of the way they could think the game," Davis says. It was the most-watched basketball game of all time. Back then, most households got four channels, and none even carried the NBA finals. The Magic/Bird showdown proved basketball was a draw.

Hip-Hop Fans Get Own Guitar Hero

Could DJs be the next Guitar Heroes? The publisher of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ hopes so. "I know that Scratch can reinvigorate DJ culture," turntable icon Mix Master Mike tells Ars Technica of the videogame, due out this summer. It'll push kids "into getting real turntables to not only keep the art alive but to spawn a new generation of DJs and beat makers," he says.

“Scratch not only simulates the art of scratching, but it also helps with practicing your timing and precision as a real-life DJ,” says Mike, who helped with the game. “The gameplay is designed to inspire players to be creative with the music and learn to improvise like real DJs do.” But the game’s largely-unknown publisher will face some stiff competition from Activision’s upcoming DJ Hero.

In Barren Job Market, to Get a Job, Create One

New businesses are sprouting up across America as unemployed people running out of time and money decide that the only way to get a job is to create one, the New York Times reports. Economists say now is the time in the downturn cycle when "forced entrepreneurship" starts, and this time around, the Internet is making it easier for aspiring people to get their ideas—from web design services to jellyfish aquariums—off the ground.

The failure rate for small businesses is intimidatingly high even in boom times, but economists believe those who do succeed may be sowing the seeds for an eventual turnaround. That's because small businesses, collectively, employ a sizable chunk of the workforce. And corporate downsizing has left huge numbers of talented people available.

Mother's Day Weekend World Premiere of "Seeds" a play by Pyramid Productions

Synopsis

What is "Seeds?"

Simply put, Seeds is a real, relevant, and very funny theatrical production that aims to capture various dynamics that exist within OUR society.

Have you ever seen that 21 year old self made entrepreneur in Black Enterprise Magazine and said to yourself, "Damn, how did dude get on?"

How about that person in your life that always has a smile on their face despite that fact that they are feeling the recession just as much, if not more than we all are? Ever wonder, "What the F is dude smiling at?"

And I'm sure we ALL can relate to the wild and imaginative thoughts that come about whenever we approach a red light after exiting the Ryan and are approached by a struggling homeless person. (Especially on 95th St.) We have thought or even stated aloud, "That could never be me."

But without exploring and understanding the paths these individuals had to take to get where they are in life can we ever really be certain about that statement?

After all, your current status in life has just as much to do with your upbringing and the situations you face throughout your journey as it does with who you are as a person. In fact, if you really want to break it down your upbringing and experiences ultimately MAKE you the person you are. (I believe we all witnessed that in the last play, “The Greatest Teacher.”)

But this time around we are going to explore the actions (and in actions) we are exposed to at a young and impressionable age and the impact these “experiences” had our lives, for better or worse.

This theatrical production aims to display the good, the bad, and the ugly of the challenges of childhood through the story of several young, minority, inner city youth (and a couple grown folks) that are trying to either survive the streets, revive the streets, or eliminate them altogether.

"Seeds" is guaranteed to be the powerful, dynamic and uplifting piece you’ve come to expect from a CLK Production. And we are confident that ALL those in attendance will be able enjoy this body of work for one reason or another; be it a 75 year old Grandmother looking for a unique Mother’s day gift or a 15 year old youth struggling to find their way.

Believe It or Not, Baseball Offers Frugal Lessons

Looking at baseball, you’d think the country wasn’t in a recession—clubs are charging exorbitant ticket prices and shelling out tens of millions of dollars on top free agents. Will the bubble ever collapse? Probably not, writes Nate Silver for Esquire. MLB is, after all, a legally protected monopoly. But more importantly, the sport already has taken steps to add a dose of reality its out-of-control pay structure.

Blue-chip free agents like CC Sabathia will always command princely sums—their skills are rare. But baseball has cut contracts on its “upper-middle class.” In 2007, 29 free agents signed contracts worth $5 million to $10 million. But 2008 saw only 11 such signings, and a smaller but significant drop in the $1 million to $5 million category. "The industry, in just a few years, has arguably made up for decades' worth of inefficiencies," writes Silver. "If only the rest of the economy could be so lucky."

Jewel of Maya Art Unearthed in Guatemala

Archaeologists reclaiming the Mayans' biggest city from the Guatemalan jungle have uncovered the oldest known depiction of the ancient civilization's creation myth, reports Reuters. The carvings depict the heroic twins of Maya legend emerging from the underworld surrounded by cosmic monsters. They appear on a pair of 26-foot-long panels at the ancient city, known as El Mirador.

Another of the panels, which took three months to excavate, shows a Maya corn god framed by a serpent. The find "has tremendous antiquity and shows again the remarkable resilience of an ideology that's existed for thousands of years," said an archeologist. El Mirador—currently accessible only by helicopter or a 2-day hike through the jungle—is threatened by looters and deforestation.

He/she wants to steal your base, 2nd base, but you carefully keep your eyes on him/her, so that the other team doesn't gain control by reaching 2nd base and getting into scoring position. If you are a baseball fan you understand my example. If not, here's a much clearer description. There's always competition, there's no way around it. The competition is looking to steal your base or your spot. As I always say, be aware of what's going on around you and give 150% to whatever you do. GOD's Will is absolute GOOD. If you are doing good or better, you're rewarded. Our Creator, who is the source of our supply, will come through via an employer/income source and will shift the competition in another direction. If you are doing absolutely GOOD, and continue to be grateful for your position, you're safe.

You are in control of the game, don't let ANYBODY Steal Your Base!

Spring Forward

Boolumaster

Once a year we set our clocks up one hour in March, we use the phrase "Spring Forward" and later in the year we turn our clocks back an hour, "Fall Back". Our Goal in life should be to continue springing forward, to prosper in every aspect of our lives. Life can swing hard forcing us to Fall Back at times, we have to stand firm, we can't allow situations or circumstances to stop our progress. Being still, meditating & praying for order and guidance and having faith in ourselves are the main tools needed to keep that bounce in our steps, so that we can continue Springing Forward.

Lifetime Portrait of Bard Found

A family heirloom is thought to be the only surviving portrait of William Shakespeare painted during his life, the Telegraph reports. Art restorer Alex Cobbe noticed that a portrait of the Bard in the Folger Shakespeare library in Washington—known to be a posthumous copy of another work—bore an uncanny resemblance to a painting he had inherited. After extensive analysis of Cobbe’s painting, experts believe it was the basis for the Folger copy.

"My first impression was skepticism," said Stanley Wells, chairman of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, who examined the work. "But my excitement has grown with the amount of evidence about the painting. "I am willing to go 90% of the way to declaring my confirmation that this is the only lifetime portrait of Shakespeare."

George Daniel's, Founder and Owner of George's Music Room. Also Godfather of the Chicago Music Scene at Kindred The Family Soul Private Party

Grace To Be Ourselves

by: Cory L. Kemp

When Brett Favre was quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and announced his retirement, his simple explanation for the move was that he was tired. At thirty-eight and possessing graying hair, Favre and his family have been through multiple tragedies and upheavals in the last few years, but he kept on playing, even the day after his father died.

Having given more to the game than most and played the game with more joy than anyone, Favre had a right to his reasons and wanted his loyal fans to hear those reasons from him, not filtered through the media, which has been known to have quite vivid imaginations regarding the facts at times. Favre was emotional during the hour broadcast from Lambeau Field, home of the Packers and all they have accomplished. It seemed he embodied every uphill battle and triumph the team had delivered to the people of Wisconsin during his sixteen seasons.

What was quite wonderful, and rather poignant, was that of all the records that Favre holds - most yards passing, most starts, most passes completed among them - he claimed none solely for himself. He believes everything he did was a team effort and the whole team deserved credit for what are labeled publicly as his achievements. And what matters most to him is that he is leaving at the top of his game by his own standards, not anyone else's.

That said, Brett Favre is the first to tell you his is not perfect. His battles with prescription drug dependency and alcohol abuse are well-known and almost cost him his marriage and family.

But between the public hero and the private man who struggled to work through his issues to reemerge in wholeness and health lies grace. In this respect Brett Favre, Jesus and the rest of us have grace in common.

Grace is one of those words that gets tossed around like a Frisbee at a church social, so for the record, my dictionary and I are defining grace as, " unmerited favor or generous courtesy granted." Take your pick. Either way, grace is something we cherish when we are the recipients and something we have a lot to learn about offering up more often. So I think it is important to take the time to say that we may not be as familiar with how grace functions as we may pride ourselves.

With that settled, please know that I am not calling Brett Favre a messiah in any way, shape or form, nor do I believe he had a messiah complex. I don't think Jesus did either. Jesus lived His life with humility, kindness, faith and a complete boldness that was unheard of in His time and unmatched in our own. His public ministry, marked by frequent run-ins with religious authorities and filled with conflict, also contained instances of insightful teaching, miraculous healings and speaking events that drew crowds simply by word of mouth. The level of warmth and acceptance He felt for the marginalized people of His culture - women, children, tax collectors, prostitutes - drew controversy, but didn't distract Him from His work and did little to damage His image with the general population. People loved Him for who He was and what He brought to their lives: hope.

Meanwhile, scripture tells us that Jesus did struggle with this work He was called to do, and even more so, the brutal end he foresaw for His own life. Frustration with the disciples is evident. They can't be blamed for not quite getting the full depth of Jesus' thoughts and ideas. We have barely scratched the surface of that ourselves and we possess two thousand years of hindsight. I am fairly sure Jesus didn't blame them either. Having grown up in the Temple, Jesus also never left his faith behind to pursue or create a new religion. He understood, better than most, the power religious institutions can have over people. So even in his verbal scuffles with Scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees He knew they were trying to preserve a history and a people which had known more slavery than freedom, while He was pointing the way to a newly-defined freedom in God's love. Crowds followed Him day and night, hardly giving Him any opportunity for sleep, let alone personal reflection and prayer, but for these and the many people who were never able to grasp what Jesus was offering them, Jesus only had mercy and compassion.

And yet, in all that he thought, said and did, He didn't take credit for His knowledge, insight, teaching or preaching abilities, but always pointed back to God as His Sources of being. It may have been easier to smile and say, "Thank you," but He didn't. We remember Him today as One with authority, but also great humility. We remember Him as a man of grace, a man who gave unmerited favor and generous courtesy to those least deserving and those most in need of its transformative power.

And so, we are back to Brett Favre, expressing humility in the face of great opportunity to take all the credit, smile and say, "Thank you." Instead he chose the grace of shared experience, shared victory and shared credit with the people who helped him make it all possible. He chose grace, giving favor to those who had not asked him for it. He offered generous courtesy when no one would have faulted him for doing otherwise. He chose grace.

We too have the opportunity to express humility in the face of opportunities to take all the credit, smile and say, "Thank you." But instead, we can choose to extend grace to others at times when unmerited, unearned favor or generous courtesy may take some effort on our part. The effort is worth it, particularly when we may be blessed with grace we have not merited or earned, or have generous courtesy extended at a time when someone else makes the effort for us.

FaithWalk Interview with Mr. Exzavier M. Jones Jr., a.k.a. Providence Muzik

It’s not about the gift or talent; it’s about how you use it and who you use it for.

Listening for God is what I do whenever I commune with people. It is during that communion a story is revealed - a story that informs. Daily I find myself in the story of others. I find my longing, my fears, my courage, my strength and my determination to break through my paralysis and self judgment in order to create. When I speak to and listen to artists, I find a common consciousness and wellspring. I draw upon the artists for sustenance.

This interview offered me lots of sustenance. It is about a new artist known as Exzavier M. Jones Jr., aka Providence Muzik. He is a grounded young man, a gifted rapper and a charismatic speaker. His love for God and Music is effervescent. His spirit is humble. I was grateful for the opportunity to hear him perform live and to get an interview with him.
Martin Luther a well known theologian once said, “Music is the art of the prophets, the only art that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.” Exzavier, I thank you for your gift and talent. I appreciate the way you are using it and who you’re using it for. For those reading this article I pray you a creative break through.

I present to you Exzavier……

SC: Exzavier you have an interesting spelling of your first name and an equally interesting stage name. Could you tell me about the name, Providence Muzik?
PM: Yes….I was born in Providence Hospital on the Southside of Chicago. My birth was rather interesting in that I was born with some health complications and was rushed to Mt Sinai Hospital by helicopter. My sister shared with me this compelling story and I in turn decided to take on the name of Providence.
Providence means God’s protection and right arm. Given the nature of my birth and other interesting and significant points in my life I know God has been my protection.

SC: Has Providence always been your stage name?
PM: No, I had another name. It was Maniac. At that time I use to be a battling rapper. I got tired of dis-ing on people and decided to stop rapping. Back then I had no originality

SC: So are you saying you changed your style to become more original?
PM: Yes.

SC: Your bio indicated that you only do gospel rap now – why?
PM: I only do gospel music now because my ability to use the spoken word is a gift from God. In using my gift I have to honor Him by loving what He loves and hating what He hates. God is the center of who I am – to go outside of who I am would not allow me to be real - original.

SC: So are you saying hip hop is not of God?
PM: No, not at all: I am saying that Rap from my perspective is biblical. There is a term in the Old Testament called Shebianah. It means the rambling of the word to a rhythmic pattern. Rap is about lyrics and the way you do things. My style of Rap is the way I do things. It has a certain spirit to it.

SC: Can you describe that Spirit?
PM: Honest, potent and transparent….The Spirit of God moving and inspiring lyrical art.

SC: Do you have any role models who inspire you to do what you do?
PM: Yes, I like the group called the 116 Clique. It is a good Christian Rap Group. They inspired me to get into the Rap thing.

SC: Did you ever meet them personally?
PM: No, I only heard one of their CDs. They are kind of famous.

SC: Do you and 116 Clique share a common consciousness about Rap?
PM: We are not ashamed of the gospel. We utilize are gifts for God and His people.

SC: Do you have any other role models?
PM: Yes, my true role model is Dr. Jeremiah Cummings. He was a former Moslem under Farrakhan. He is currently Christian and an Evangelist. He was also the first tenor of the R&B group, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. One day I had an opportunity to hear his story. His testimony was Awesome! He told us that he studied 13 months and 9 hours a day in the word of God, then for 43 days he fasted. I admire him for being able to set his heart to do a thing and to stick to it - until it was accomplished. To stay consistent is an awesome discipline.

SC: What do you desire to accomplish as an artist – to move from rags to riches or to understand the need to love and to spread love using your craft?
PM: That is really a good question. My goal is to God and Music. Both bring chills to my spine because they are awesome. They cause me to come alive - like love. Through my music I want people to feel loved. I want to see people saved. In many ways I see myself as a teacher of the Spirit. I minister through music.

SC: How do you remain focused to achieve this plan?
PM: This is the most focused that I have ever been in my life. It is because of God’s grace. I have found something to care about and to stay focused on it.

SC: When some novices come into the business/the game, oftentimes they are not prepared. High visibility and unresolved issues (addictions, sex, anger, grief, and violence) trip them up. How are you dealing with unresolved issues in your life so not to get caught up and to lose your way?
PM: Wow…another good question. My answer to this is Prayer….praying in the Spirit. My two biggest issues have been lust and rejection. When I got into the Spirit and started praying God helped me to resolve my issues. But it does not stop there. Temptation is everywhere. I have had to spend lots of time in the Spirit, praying, reading the Word and allowing God to transform my character. It is never me but God working through me that allows for transformation to take place. I have also learned to stay accountable and humble enough to listen to correction. God speaks to us through people. I try to keep that in mind.

SC: As a writer for FaithWalk, I always ask the question, are you on a faithwalk?
PM: Yes I am on a FaithWalk.

SC: What have you learned about yourself while on this journey?
PM: The one thing that stands out - learning what it means when you say Jesus is Lord. Is he really leading my life and am I learning obedience.

SC: Do you have any wisdom for others who are on a faith journey?
PM: Become a God pleaser and not a man pleaser. Be more like King David rather than a King Solomon. Don’t set up monuments to yourself. Learn to submit to God. For people who are not saved…it is beautiful on the other side. Church is not perfect but neither is the world. Make an effort to do the right thing. There is no right way to do the wrong thing. Do what is right – do it God’s way. God is Love. Strive to come into alignment with God’s plan.

During my interview with Providence he mentioned that he is now a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Providence congratulation on of the many accomplishments you have achieved. You are well on your way to becoming all that God created you to be.

Living By Faith & Not By Sight

Janie Baer

Your ability to live by faith has nothing to do with:

Who you are, where you were born, or where you live.

The amount of money you presently have in your bank account, billfold or purse or don’t presently have in your bank account, billfold or purse.

Amount of time you have or don’t have. (Faith has no time, it is always “now” Faith. Faith is always present tense. – I have _____ now. I can do _____ now. I am _____ now.)

How much something costs.

Has nothing to do with your ability or inability. (Remember: Faith is God’s ability working on your behalf. If you could do it yourself, you wouldn’t have to use your faith.)

If you have planned well financially or if there has been lack of financial planning.

Job or no job.

Paycheck or no paycheck or income or no income.

The number of educational degrees you have or a lack of education. (The fishermen who walked with Jesus were men of faith and yet they were just “fishermen” and not highly educated men; but yet they told Jesus when He sent them out to minister on their own that their every need was met.)

Your five physical senses (They only relate to the physical realm and will only tell you what is going on in the physical realm, but faith is of the spirit, a higher realm. You’re actually living in a higher realm, not subject to the natural realm when you live by faith.)

Natural limitations. (Faith is supernatural ability and there are no limitations with faith. If there were limitations then we could say God is limited, but that will never be.)

A person’s intelligence or lack of it. (Actually intelligence can get in the way of faith by trying to figure out how it is going to happen. Faith is working when your heart and not your head is fixed, established, trusting in the Lord.)

Your ability in any matter. (Faith is God’s ability working on your behalf.)

What is faith? Faith is substance of things hoped for needed and desired, evidence of what cannot be seen by your physical eyes, your assurance, your confirmation, your title deed of things, proof of things not seen, conviction of their reality, perception as real fact what is not revealed to senses, leaning of your entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom and goodness.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. KJV

Hebrews 11:1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. AMP

Hebrews 6:12 In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith ( by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. AMP

Faith is always now, present tense. You talk like it is done.

Faith is a law, spiritual law:

Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. KJV

Faith and patience are power twins:

Hebrews 6:12 ….faith ( by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. AMP

James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. KJV

Acting in faith, you just believe and act accordingly; staying Holy Spirit connected and He will guide you through the whole process. How easy is that? We make spirit things complicated and really we are more spiritual then we are human or carnal since God lives in us and we are now born again of the Spirit and have the ability to operate out of our spirit rather than be limited and controlled any more by our intellect or what the five physical senses tell us.

How do we receive faith? We received the faith of God when we got born again. Faith is a gift from God. (Romans 12:3) We have the faith of Christ Jesus. (Galatians 2:20) Faith also comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17 So hear and hear again the Word concerning what you need; healing, prosperity, etc.) Building up your faith by praying in the Holy Ghost. (Jude 20)

To remain in faith or as the Word of God calls it, “established heart”, we have to guard the gates to our heart (our believing), which are our eyes gates and ear gates. Don’t keep looking at, paying attention to or listening to what is the opposite of what you want by faith.

Faith is not what we see or hear. Faith is not having faith in you and faith in your faith. Faith is having faith in God, His Word and the faith He has given to you which always does its work in any and every situation.

The Word of God is the written and spoken Word of God to us. The Word of God, itself, has enough power in it to bring things to pass; the Word just needs to be spoken out of your mouth for your situation. The Word needs you to be the receiver as well. So you are the spokesperson and the receiving person for faith. So don’t get so afraid you are going to fail in your faith for it is God’s faith He has given to you as a gift, just use it. And you are not the person to make it happen or you would be already doing it with your natural ability. You are just the believing person enough so that you speak it and act like it is done, finished. You receive it with speaking it is already reality. Speaking only the Word of God and speaking words that mean, “I received it.” Then acting like, “Okay, there it is. I’m glad that’s over with. It’s done, finished, over with.” When we speak in line with the Word of God we are not lying although in the natural we look like we are. Can we be lying when we speak what God has spoken about us. “We are healed by the stripes of Jesus.” No, that is not a lie, it is the truth about us. And we are not speaking it to make people believe we are healed. We speak it because we know it is the truth about us or our situation.

Abraham became fully persuaded in his faith to become a father when it was humanly impossible when He started speaking the name God gave to him, “Abraham”, which means “Father of nations”. When he spoke his name, “Abraham,” he was saying he was the father of nations. He never got fully persuaded in his faith he would become a father until God changed his name and he started speaking it and hearing it over and over by his family, servants, etc.

Stealers of Faith:

Being around natural, carnal thinking people and natural, carnal speaking people will steal your faith. They are always speaking what is, what they can see, hear, smell, taste or touch. So stay clear of them and seek to be around people who think in line with the Word of God, speak in line with the Word of God and act on their faith in the Word of God. (A good example of this is Abraham. When he was still named Abram, God told him to leave family and all that was familiar to him. If he had not done this, then he would not be known as our Father of faith, Abraham.)

Another stealer of faith is always looking, hearing, meditating, considering and speaking what is going on in the natural circumstances in your life. (If you want change, you have to change what you look at, listen to, meditate on, consider and speak. If you don’t, then you will only perpetuate the problem. What you focus on will expand.)

A good thing to remember in faith is to establish your heart in the Word of God about a particular thing you want to receive from God and then when the Word of God gets bigger on the inside of you through meditation then the problem or thing needing changed or brought to pass; that is the best time to speak it. That is when it is easy to speak the Word in spite of every thing and everyone that says, “That’s impossible.” Meditation plus speaking your faith brings possession. Faith’s actions can sometimes mean just speaking the Word of God or words of having received it or “It is done.” Then there are promptings of the Holy Spirit to do a certain thing. Acted upon will bring results no matter how ridiculous it may seem.

Some good examples of faith we can meditate to help establish our heart in faith are: Read about Abraham, the Father of our faith, Romans 4. The Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11. And to see the New Testament Church with faith in action read the book of Acts.

To make faith simple: Faith is trust or confidence in Jesus and His finished work. How simple is that? Jesus has said, “It is finished.” Now He has seated Himself on the right hand of the Father not because He is tired from all His work. No, He is telling us He has done all that He needs to do for us to receive all that we need and all He has promised us. And we know Jesus would not lie to us. So we can say, “By the stripes of Jesus I am healed and made whole.” (1 Peter 2:24) “Jesus became so very poor in order that I could be enriched, abundantly supplied. I am rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9) “I have been made righteous by Jesus.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

I have listed on my website scriptures and confessions for you to speak in faith over your life “In Christ”, your prosperity, Father God’s love for you and your health and for healing.

Let’s make this confession of faith:

God has given me the gift of faith. I actually have the faith of Jesus. Faith is the substance of things I hope for, need and desire. It is the evidence of what I cannot see by my physical eyes. Faith is my assurance it is mine. Faith is the only confirmation I need to know that it is mine. Faith is the title deed to the possession of it. Faith is proof to me this is all done and taken care of. Faith is the conviction of the reality of this thing. With faith I perceive it is real fact in my life no matter what the senses tell me. With my faith I lean my entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in Father God, Daddy’s power, wisdom and His goodness to me. I live by faith and not by sight.

World Change - Is There Hope for Humanity's Future?

Mashubi Rochell

Have you noticed a lot of changes happening around you, some of them which seem to be not very good ones? With the major changes in weather patterns and the accelerated pace of world events, most people nowadays are aware that something is going on! The topic of world change is on the minds and in the hearts of many people who are witnessing what is happening and not sure how to respond in a positive way. World events appear to be spiraling towards more negativity and violence, and many beautiful and kind hearted souls who hope to change the world with positive actions are frustrated by the difficulties they encounter, or by the apparent lack of effect of their good works.

To understand the process of world change from the spiritual perspective, it is necessary to understand the current times we live in. Never before have human beings been more interconnected. The acceleration pace of communications technology has created what is truly a global community, where we are becoming increasingly aware of all of humanity. The spiritual teaching that we are all One is rapidly manifesting on the Earth, as the reality of our interdependence and interconnectedness reveals itself daily, and will reveal itself even more so in the times to come.

The extreme imbalances in our world are being revealed, and it is no longer possible for us to shut out the reality of the needs of the human family of which we are all a part. World change is greatly needed in a world where most people lack basic resources for survival, and where a relatively small number of people have an overabundance of resources.

As spiritual transformation on the Earth progresses, it will become apparent to more and more people that these imbalances, where one part of our human family suffers at the expense of another, are actually detrimental to everyone. This awakening of planetary consciousness has not yet happened, but it will. The present time of world change has been prophesied in many different cultures and religions, and each of us who are here today is an important and essential part of this evolution in human consciousness.

World change is happening at an ever accelerating rate, and each individual who opens their heart to God's love and embraces the spiritual calling to awaken, adds their light and love and consciousness to the planetary collective consciousness. It is through many individuals awakening that world change will manifest and transform the current global situation, bringing into manifestation a new era for the family of humankind.

Ancient Footprints Reveal Path to Humanity

Scientists have unearthed ancient footprints that reveal humanity's ancestors walked with a modern stride as long as 1.5 million years ago, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. Researchers believe the tracks—left beside a muddy river bank in Kenya and preserved when the river changed course—belong to human ancestor Homo erectus, and provide vital clues to how humanity began.

Scientists say the prints were made by creatures that walked exclusively upright on feet much like our own, allowing them to travel easily across open spaces and even to run long distances. The researchers say they were stunned to uncover such familiar-looking footprints in the ancient sediment. "These could quite easily have been made on the beach today," said one archaeologist.
